Video Geisteskrank
A Movie Review by Tim Wambolt
From the mysterious pig mask-wearing filmmaker known only as "VHS" of Breakface Pictures and the Uwe Boll-endorsed website, filmbizarro.com, comes VHS' feature debut: "Video Geisteskrank". Let the tongue snipping commence!
VHS is a one man army, he writes, directs, edits, designs the promotional artwork and stars in his films. Video Geisteskrank was created as a fan submitted bonus short to be included in the August Underground box set. The movie features stylized edits and trippy digital special effects accompanied by good old fashion prop effects for the gory scenes.
The cinematography takes advantage of symmetry and ambient lighting in the various horror-themed filming locations including an abandoned church, a cemetery and a creepy bathroom, all lending to the overall dark atmosphere of the film. The opening credits are presented during an artistic ,Sam Raimi-style point of view from the prespective of the ground fog as the camera navigates eerily through the tombstones in the cemetery.
The plot of Video Geisteskrank focuses on murderer in a pig mask who has not only been baptised by evil in the church of Satan, but also brain washed from watching too many of Fred Vogel's August Underground movies. He now feels obligated to re-inact the scenes of cruetly that he has just witnessed Fred perform on screen. He then creates his infamous "to-do list".
By the time this list is marked off, the killer in the pig mask will have already brutally beaten a young girl, dragged her into the bathroom, hammered nails into her head, ripped her fingernails out with pliers and snipped her tongue in half with scissors.
As you can obviously imagine by this point, Video Geisteskrank is an extremely gruesome movie that not only pays homage to the August Underground films, (particulary Penance with the nail hammering scene) but is also influenced by Tumbling Doll of Flesh, Snuff 102 and Buio Omega. Don't worry though, Video Geisteskrank also has comedy in it! The movie is presented in the style of old silent films, complete with catchy music and full screen sub-titles! And it's a good thing that you're given this comedic relief in preparation for the final task on this August Undergrounds Mordum-influenced "to-do list":
Preform necrofelia on the rotting corpse of an 8 year old child.
Enjoy!
