Video game news by Running With Scissors columnist Tom Farrell: Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero Roll Out the New Tracks for Summer Activision will be unveiling 18 new tracks for Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero this summer.
The red-hot video games will be featuring new tunes from Stone Temple Pilots, rock mainstay Alice Cooper, newcomers All Time Low and what they call “a host of exclusive soccer themed shredders” from Steve Ouimette.
The Stone Temple Pilots tracks will include “Between the Lines,” “Plush” and “Sex Type Thing.” Alice Cooper tracks, which were initially released before video games even existed, include the legendary “School’s Out,” “I’m Eighteen” and “Welcome to My Nightmare.” Punk poppers All Time Low make their GH debut with the tracks “Dear Maria, Count Me In,” “Weightless” and a live version of “Damned If You Do, Damned If I Don’t.”
Beginning June 8th, you can download the exclusive “National Anthem Track Pack” gratis on the Xbox 360 system, which includes special Guitar Hero versions of “God Save the Queen,” “Il Canto degli Italiani,” “La Marseillaise,” “Lied der Deutschen,” “Marcha Real” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The Crystal Method and Jacknife Lee Contribute Music to Blur - the Video Game, Not the Band
The Crystal Method and Grammy Award-winning producer Jacknife Lee have contributied music to Blur, a brand new racing game from Activision. The 18-song soundtrack, through the Ninja Tune label, also features tracks by newcomers Coldcut, the Qemists and the Herbaliser. Videogames are a great medium to share new music with a new audience, so we were thrilled to be involved with Blur. A soundtrack is always key to enhancing the atmosphere of a game, and we feel our music reflects the frenetic tone of Blur, making the whole experience more intense and exciting,” explained Scott Kirkland of The Crystal Method.

Green Day: Rock Band Demo Available Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games have released a demo of Green Day: Rock Band , including “Welcome to Paradise” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” – via Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360®. In addition, the demo has been released on for the PlayStation®Network in North America and Europe.
These select tracks are featured in the soon-to-be-released Green Day: Rock Band and, according to the press release, “features full integration of motion capture band performances and the three-part harmony technology first introduced in last year’s award-winning The Beatles: Rock Band.”
Green Day: Rock Band will ship in North America on June 8, 2010 and in Europe on June 11, 2010 on Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Nintendo Wii™.
The Green Day: Rock Band demo is compatible with all Rock Band™ and The Beatles™: Rock Band™ peripherals, as well as most third-party instruments and microphones.
Pantera’s The Great Southern Trendkill Available for Rock Band Harmonix and MTV Games today announced that Pantera’s metal masterpiece, The Great Southern Trendkill, will be available next week in the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Wii™.
Pantera formed in Texas in 1981 and has been named to VH1’s “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock” and MTV’s “Top 10 Greatest Heavy Metal Bands of All Time,” and has sold more than 8 million albums in the United States. The Great Southern Trendkill was released in 1996, as the band’s eighth studio album, reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 and was declared platinum in August 2004. “Floods,” featured on The Great Southern Trendkill, contains a guitar solo that Guitar World voted its 15th Greatest Guitar Solo of All-Time.
