The Thrashers at Whisky A Go-Go
A Club Review By Running With Scissors
The Thrashers are a quintet of hard-rocking nine-year-olds from up around the Bay Area. The Thrashers consist of twin brothers Nick (on bass and vocals) and Chris Rigling on drums; keyboardist Brandon Lee;
rhythm guitarist Charley Rutledge and guitarist Geddy Franco. It’s hard to believe that a bunch of fourth graders could be so musically proficient, as well as talented in the songwriting department. But they are.
The Thrashers are obviously well-rehearsed, and have dedicated a good deal of time to their art. Maybe it’s because their kids that they have such a quick learning curve, but whatever the case, these guys proved that they have skills and the ability to deliver them.
The group has played a wide variety of shows in their brief career - from lodges, variety shows, jam fests and even have an upcoming gig at the prestigous Knitting Factory in Reno. Their stage appearance is lacking in pretense - they’re too young to be saddled by egos, or apparently, by nerves. Just a normal, high energy performance by a group who obviously love what they’re doing, and do it well.
The band scores high points in the songwriting department as well. Their song “Follow” shows the Thrashers’ ability to write a catchy, infectious tune and deliver it well. This song has hit written all over it, and the band has many other songs that showcase their prowess as songwriters.
Keep your eyes on the Thrashers - they could be the biggest thing out there before they’re even old enough to go into the bars they’ve been rocking.
