Three Tomatoes Trattoria - 0/10
Burlington, VT - Restaurant Review by Vince Desi!
In my endless search to find the top pizza on this planet I recently found myself in beautiful Burlington, Vermont. I was with my young and very hungry nephew Blaze! And man can this kid eat!
(Blaze is also a very selective vegetarian who knows quality produce). Once again the old adage never judge a book by its cover applies. The place was very attractive, we sat downstairs in what looked like an old brick building cellar, the smell was ok but not the rich flavor of smoke a real wood fire joint should have. The waiter was overweight and nice (I hope he didn’t get that big by eating here). I began my usual investigation by looking over the oven and talking to the pizza maker. Instantly I new I was in for a shit pie experience.
First, I seen 3 undercooked pies waiting to be picked up by the wait staff, never a good sign. I asked the pizza jerk off how hot the oven was and he replied ‘about 450 degrees’. I returned to my table with guest waiting, and I remained silent in hope that a miracle would happen in Vermont this day.
Well, no miracles that day. Both our pies (cheese, mushroom & artichoke and Sausage & Pepperoni) arrive cold and raw, of course I asked to have them cooked more, the waiter warned me they would burn. When they reappeared it was the same with a little brown cooked edge.
Summary: go to Vermont for blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup. Three Tomatoes was a disgrace in pizza making, and worse when you consider that they are supposedly using quality produce.
