I call this column my 3R’s because all of these reviews are based on my personal real experience. My goal is to share my 50+ years of dining in kitchens, restaurants, dives, dumps and shitholes to help you find new places to enjoy and to avoid establishments that are crap. In order to make it easy I use a 10 point rating system, 10 being Dining Heaven and 0 equals total hell. I also share with you my comments on the food, the place, service and anything else that made an impression ie. Good, bad or ugly.
The following is an overview of how I approach my real restaurant reviews:
THE FOOD:
-Taste: The most important thing about any food is how does it taste, is it a dream dish or a shit sandwich.
-Ingredients: My Aunt Marylou once told me "Vinny, anybody can cook crap and make a dish look good, but you gotta use quality ingredients to make a good meal". Many establishments say they use certain ingredients, but they lie, or they use a cheaper version of it. Cheese is not always cheese.
-Presentation: Personally I think presentation is nice but my mom and aunts never concentrated on how dinner looked, they were busy with how it tasted. Like most things in life, ‘Looks’ can be deceiving.
-Portion: I mention this category because nothing bothers me more than spending a fortune only to leave and look for the nearest McDonalds.
THE PLACE:
-Environment: I'm more concerned with a clean joint than a fancy place with expensive looking fake crap on the walls.
-Staff: While the customer is NOT always right, the staff should ALWAYS be attentive, helpful and courteous. Who wants to go out and spend their hard earned money to be treated like shit.
-Price: Nothing beats a great meal for a great price. However, sometimes a small fortune will get you a once in a lifetime dining experience.
