Letter From A POSTAL Fan
Fellow POSTAL fans,
I'm a fan, not an employee of RWS.
As you no doubt all know by now, Computer Gaming World has given ourbeloved
POSTAL 2 its lowest review score ever: perfect 0. No other game has,
in their minds, been that bad.
Robert Coffey (writer of the CGW review) seems to either have a personal
vendetta against this game, or didn't take the time to play it very
much, or maybe he just didn't bother to INSTALL it, and relied on
word-of-mouth to figure out the game's content- something which many
a moronic reviewer has done with the POSTAL series.
I urge you all to e-mail Robert Coffey (robert_coffey@ziffdavis.com)
or the letters section of CGW (cgwletters@ziffdavis.com) and give
them a piece of your mind. Even if you just don't want to deal with
the reviewers or the editors, forward this e-mail to them. They can't
ignore all of us.

Email Responses:
man so many crooked people in seats of authority trying to change
things to their own liking not for whats best for the people makes
me fucking sick dont worry i emailed that censoring communist and
told him what i think keep up the great work guys (oh and i just had
a thought if you plan on a postal 3 put him in there please id like
to knock his head off with a shovel)
To Robert Coffey:
I understand you gave Postal2 a zero rating.
First, thanks, that's probably the best vote of confidence. Like they
say, there's no such thing as bad press. I am a fan of the game and
have nothing to do with RWS or any affiliated companies. I enjoy the
game immensely and wish all the success in the world to RWS and their
partners. Second, I'm guessing you gave it this rating for these reasons
1) it wouldn't be politically correct, and ZD gets most of it's money
from Microsoft-Ass-Sucking, which relies heavily on being entirely
politically correct... 2) you never actually played it, because you
knew that you couldn't admit to liking it at all. Whatever. My life
is enriched greatly by Postal 2. I certainly cannot say the same about
ZD. Good luck with that Microsoft Ass Sucking venture thingy you got
going there. Sincerely Keith Blackwell RWS's customer, not yours.
Robert Coffey's review on Postal 2 is pathetic. I am an adult(32)
and Postal 2 is an adult game. I agree that the load times can be
long at times and that some of the content is a little over the edge
for some people. But for him to give it a 0 rating is just not right
at all. Maybe your magazine is not for us adults who are into new
and different ideas in game design instead of cookie cutter games
from companies that are afraid to stray off the "CLEAN AND PROPER"
path of game design.

Dear Ziff Davis Media,
I am usually quite satisfied with Ziff Davis Media products (PC Magazine,
EMG and GMR), but recently had an experience that leads me to doubt
the integrity of Ziff Davis Media products as a whole.
To believe in a company that publishes accurate information, that
company needs to have accurate information in its publications. I
feel I have wasted 10 plus years reading your magazines and am completely
disillusioned.
The review by Robert Coffey was about the game Postal 2 by game developers
Running with Scissors. The game is a first person shooter. There are
guns and other weapons within. There are unusual character behaviors
and graphic content. However, in a first person shooter video game,
the way in which an opponent is eliminated is virtual death. No matter
what the method, death is death and there is no greater tragedy. No
matter how profound.
Your publications and Robert Coffey have made a political statement
and did not represent true and creditable information. I own the game,
I play the game and I like the game. Not specifically because of it's
content, not because I am defying your publication but because I can.
I am free to do so and am free to accept the responsibility of the
games I play and I would expect that a company such as Ziff Davis
Media that takes the liberties of this country would also take some
responsibility in what it publishes and not impose suggestive censorship
to readers about another publisher.
Sincerely,
Randy
To Robert Coffey and the letters section of CGW:
I writing you regarding your recent review of POSTAL2. I am at a total
loss as to why you gave Postal a 0 in your review. It's a great game
full of witty and satirical humor. Yes, the game can be violent, but
as the game itself says you only have to be as violent as you want
to be; let's see that option work on Quake III, Unreal Tournament
2003, or many other games!! You'd be dead in moments and never progress
past the first area. I've been able to complete large sections of
the game without ever firing a shot or using violence of any kind.
I'm 46 years old, consider myself to be a mature professional, and
I disagree that computer games make people violent; if violence is
in your nature, then you're apt to be a violent person. I don't own
a gun, and while I do own a shovel I've used it only to dig with.
I felt no urges to use it in any other way after playing this game.
I've also found that after a hectic stress-filled day at work, that
a quick session with Postal 2 is an excellent way to release the tension.
I certainly feel much better afterwards and can look back at my day
with a chuckle.
As to the game itself, game play is excellent, the characters varied
and often hilarious, and the replay value of this title is indeed
high; I'm in about my 6th pass through, and a large part of the game
is open-ended, you can go and do what you want when you want it and
do not have to follow a straight linear path through as is the case
in so many games.
I've seen really poor pieces of software receive mediocre rating in
your publication before, but never a zero, so I have to believe that
you did not look at the game with an un-jaundiced eye. Judging by
how quick the title disappears off the shelves of the store in my
area (and I have yet to see it in the previously played pile which
lofty titles like Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament 2003, and others ended
up within a couple of weeks of their release, people obviously like
this game and enjoy playing it again and again.
I've been a reader and subscriber of your publication for quite a
few years, and this is the first time I've felt the need to write.
Perhaps you should take another look at Postal2; did you play the
whole game through? I'd think anyone with a sense of humor would love
this game!
Thank you for taking the time to read my comments.
Chris
